The phase change with this ice pack takes place at approx. 0°C. During this change, the ice pack needs a lot of energy in the form of heat to melt, which it gets from the environment (e.g. inside a cool bag or cool box) - the so-called heat absorption. In other words: The temperature range around 0°C is the temperature range that this cold pack can maintain for the longest time because that is where it extracts the most heat energy from its surroundings (melting point).
